Creative Marxism-Leninism for Today: Confronting a New Ideological, Technological, and Digital Context

Carlos L. GarridoOscar Rojas Silva

Abstract

Presented as a wide-ranging philosophical dialogue, this interview explores the theoretical and practical challenges confronting Marxism-Leninism in an era shaped by digital technologies, artificial intelligence, social media, and the evolving forms of contemporary capitalism. Through an interdisciplinary engagement with thinkers including Hegel, Marx, Lukács, Heidegger, Foucault, Žižek, Yuk Hui, and Cheng Enfu, Garrido and Rojas Silva argue that Marxism must be understood as a living and creative method rather than a closed doctrinal system. The discussion examines the ideological transformations accompanying the decline of American hegemony, the emergence of a crisis of political legitimacy, the restructuring of subjectivity through digital platforms, and the necessity of developing new organizational forms capable of responding to these historical conditions. Rejecting both theoretical dogmatism and postmodern fragmentation, the interview advances a conception of creative Marxism-Leninism that preserves the universal methodological insights of historical materialism while continually adapting them to novel technological, cultural, and geopolitical realities. In doing so, it presents revolutionary theory as an open-ended project whose vitality depends upon its capacity to generate new concepts, strategies, and institutions adequate to the contradictions of the twenty-first century.
